Meet mobi - mobile outreach bus of ideas

When you think of a library, most people picture two things: books and programs for all ages. The closure of the Cherry Lane Branch on August 9, 2025 for a major renovation, expected to last until the winter of 2026–2027, has disrupted both. Cherry Lane has been the largest and busiest branch in the Meridian Library District, with an average 19,000 monthly visitors; 653,217 items circulated annually; nearly 2,000 annual room reservations; and nearly 30,000 combined computer sessions and Wi-Fi connections every year. Cherry Lane has also been home to hundreds of programs each year, serving thousands of children, teens, adults, families, and seniors.

For many, the temporary closure of Cherry Lane means more than losing access to books. It represents a loss of daily social connection, after-school safety, creative outlets, and reliable access to technology.

Recognizing this urgent community impact, the Meridian Library Foundation has partnered closely with the Library District to help bridge the gap during the closure. Last fall, the Foundation funded a second Home Delivery vehicle to expand doorstep delivery of books, puzzles, movies, and games. This essential service now serves nearly 500 unique patrons every month, with demand continuing to grow.

But materials alone are not enough. The second part of meeting this need is programming access. That is where MOBI comes in.
