HELPS THE FOUNDATION FUND A SHELF OF BOOKS

Over the past 5 years, the Meridian Library Foundation has proudly supported the purchase of over $50,000 worth of children's books, all thanks to the unwavering generosity of our library supporters. However, our journey doesn't end here.

We are officially announcing our commitment to funding $50,000 toward the Meridian Library’s Children’s Collection for 7 types of youth books over the next ten months. Implementation of Idaho’s new law will likely come at the great expense of important programs, services, and materials, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our children’s collection does not suffer at the expense of this bill.

This year, the library's operating budget has allocated $187,000 for children’s books. With your generous support, the Foundation pledges to contribute $50,000 towards fulfilling this annual collection requirement, thereby freeing up resources within the library's budget to address other critical needs.

We are helping fund 7 types of youth books:

  • Picture Books: A children's book that blends illustrations or photos with text to narrate a story. Vibrant, captivating artwork stands out, captivating young readers and igniting their imaginations.
  • Early Readers: These books are intended for children who are beginning to read on their own, usually featuring simple vocabulary and short sentences.
  • Chapter Books: Longer than early readers but shorter than novels, chapter books are aimed at children who are ready for more complex stories but may still benefit from shorter chapters and illustrations.
  • Nonfiction: Children's nonfiction books cover a wide range of topics, from history and science to biographies and how-to guides, tailored to various age groups and reading levels.
  • Board Books: Sturdy books designed for babies and toddlers, often made of thick cardboard pages that can withstand chewing and rough handling.
  • Interactive Books: These books engage children through interactive features such as lift-the-flap, touch-and-feel, or pop-up elements.
  • Wonderbook: a hybrid children's book that combines a printed story with an embedded audiobook player, fostering an interactive reading journey enhanced by sound effects and narration. This inclusive design promotes accessibility, independence, and inclusive learning through its multi-sensory approach.

Every dollar raised through this campaign goes directly towards purchasing new youth books, ensuring that our young readers continue to have access to a diverse and enriching collection. Your contribution will help us continue our mission of enriching young minds and fostering a lifelong love of reading.

Together we will continue to meet the needs of our community...one story at a time.
